DEX and interoperability upgrades show TomoChain (TOMO) wants DeFi dominance

The cryptocurrency market started the year in full force and with all the bullish breakouts happening it can be difficult to discern which projects are simply being driven by the macro trend and which are making gains based on solid tech developments and improving fundamentals.  As the price of Bitcoin dropped more than $11,000 between Jan. 10 and Jan. 11, a number of altcoins saw double-digit losses but a few DeFi and layer 2-oriented coins bucked the trend and quickly recovered as BTC price consolidated. For example, TomoChain (TOMO) saw…

Ethereum 2.0 recently fired up its Beacon Chain, concluding Phase 0 of a scaling effort years in the making. Although he expressed faith in Eth2, Celsius CEO and founder Alex Mashinsky believes that the network could lose its spotlight if it doesn’t scale quickly and significantly. “Ethereum needs to prove it can scale its transactions 100x without compromising on security or decentralization,” Mashinsky told Cointelegraph when asked about Eth2’s next hurdle after its Beacon Chain launch. “If it fails to scale, Cardano and Polkadot will take over.” As of Thursday,…

The rapid growth of decentralized finance (defi) protocols is contributing to the increasing proportion of ETH supply that is now locked in smart contracts. More than 15% of the total ETH supply is now locked, compared to 11.5% from a year ago. This growth led to the inevitable decline of BTC dominance. According to a report, over 5% of ETH is locked up in the WETH (wrapped ether) smart contracts, enabling it to interact with other tokens more easily. Most of this WETH has then been locked up in defi…

With Bitcoin dropping below the $12,000 level and pulling back to $11,400 in the last few days, altcoins also seem to have lost their momentum, even after their impressive gains since the start of 2020. However, some believe that “alt season” is alive and well and that cryptocurrencies still have room to grow, even after tokens like Chainlink and others have grown by more than 100%. The rising price of the dollar may have been the major reason for the recent drop in Bitcoin’s (BTC) price, with safe-haven assets such…
